Tiverton, Rhode Island (August 19, 2026) – The Town of Tiverton has received the results of PFAS sampling conducted at Fire Station #1 located at 287 East Road, as part of the Town’s efforts to monitor and protect the health and safety of its residents and emergency personnel.
The laboratory results showed non-detectable (ND) levels for the sum of the six PFAS compounds regulated by the State of Rhode Island in both the original sample and a duplicate sample collected for quality-control purposes. These results are below Rhode Island’s drinking-water standard of 20 parts per trillion (ppt) for the sum of the six regulated PFAS compounds.
The Town undertook this testing in light of the ongoing concerns regarding PFAS well contamination in portions of Tiverton. Testing Fire Station #1 provides additional information about the water quality at a Town facility and helps ensure that appropriate monitoring is being conducted. “Protecting the health and safety of our residents, firefighters, and municipal employees is a priority for the Town,” said Town Administrator, Patrick Jones. “We are pleased that the testing at Fire Station #1 showed non-detectable levels of the six regulated PFAS compounds. We will continue to monitor the situation and work with the appropriate state agencies as we address PFAS concerns in our community.”
The Town will continue to follow guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Rhode Island Department of Health, and other appropriate agencies regarding PFAS monitoring and testing. The well at Fire Station #3 will be tested at a later date as we are currently focused on testing residents’ private wells that might have been impacted.
