Lincoln Little League takes down Cranston Western in States by a final score of 6-4.
Cranston Western managed to get runners 2nd and 3rd in both the first two innings, but Jackson Lockhart, the starting pitcher for Lincoln, escaped the pressure both times with strikeouts.
The Lincoln offense came to life in the 4th - traffic was created by a Daniel Lanares leadoff walk, sacrifice bunt by Harrison Mellen, and Hugo Fiero single.
Milo Sheridan cashed in on the traffic and hit a three run home run to give Lincoln a 3-0 lead.
After a Lincoln pitching change in the bottom of the fourth, Cranston Western responded in a big way. Devan N and Blake R singles brought the game to 3-3. Cranston Western got one more run across, and they led 4-3 at end of the 4th inning.
The lead was not kept for long. In the top of the fifth, Tucker Choniere walked to make the game 4-4, and then Lincoln took a 6-4 advantage after John Rattigan hit a 2-run double.
The last big opportunity for Cranston Western ended after Lincoln’s Milo Sheridan got a strikeout out to escape a bases loaded jam.
Lincoln advances to 1-0 in the Rhode Island Little League 12U State Tournament
