No Dink, No Problem — Providence Dominates Pitt in Scrimmage

Providence beat Pittsburgh 87-64 on Saturday afternoon.

The Friars outrebounded Pitt 42-26, contributing to 21 more total shots for Providence in the game (70-49).

Miles Byrd — the Mountain West reigning defensive player of the year – had 5 steals and 2 blocks, while also being the leading scorer with 17 points.

Other standouts for Providence were Arrinten Page and Ryan Mela.

Page — The Northwestern transfer — had 16 points in 22 minutes, while returner Ryan Mela 15 points on 5-7 shooting.

Pitt is 66th in Kenpom, showing Providence handled a NCAA Tournament contender easily without Devin Vanterpool and Ryan Sabol.

Joseph Pinion and Derek Simpson still await their NCAA eligibility ruling, which will be happening on October 19th.

This scrimmage win comes only one day after Dink Pate announced he will be going back to the G League after NCAA eligibility issues. Providence now has an open roster spot and NIL to work with before the season opener on November 2nd.
