At the October 20th Smithfield Town Council meeting, Senator David Tikoian presented Chairperson of the Smithfield All Lit Up Christmas Parade Committee, Councilor Thomas Winfield with a $2,000 Legislative Grant from the Rhode Island Senate.
Senator Tikoian was successful in securing these funds to help offset the costs associated with the parade, such as traffic control, generators, lighting, permits and portable rest room facilities.
“From my perspective, the parade must go on as the saying goes. Municipal budgets are under strain, and I realize how much the community enjoys this particular parade, so I worked diligently with the Senate Leadership to ensure Smithfield received the grant funding.”
The parade is scheduled to step off from the High School at approximately 4pm on Saturday, December 5th.
